Rey D. Villarreal, age 72 of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital. He was born on April 13, 1949 in Weslaco, Texas to the late Francisca Villapando. On February 24, 1968 he married Santos Garcia who survives. Rey worked for 32 years at General Motors in Defiance until his retirement in 2000. Rey was a kind man that enjoyed talking to people and helping others with home repair projects and fixing cars. He also enjoyed being outside in his garden, camping, fishing and hunting, as well as cooking for the ones he loved. Rey was a wonderful husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. Rey is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Santos Villarreal, his son, Santana (Nicole) Villarreal of Defiance, and daughters; Alicia (Frank) Juarez and Sandra (Junie) Villarreal, all of Defiance. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Christopher Rey (Jaymie) Juarez, Alexandra Ramirez, Santana Villarreal, Ariana Juarez, Santino Ramirez, Santiago Ramirez, Tristan Estevan Rey Villarreal, Keagen Villarreal, two great-granddaughters; Temperance Juarez and Sofia Quinonez Juarez, and "other grandchild", Ella Giesige, five sisters; Sara (David) Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX, Francis Ojeda of Austin, TX, Olga Rosales of Austin, TX, Carol (Hector) Salinas of Defiance, and Diana (Marco) Villapando of Thousand Oaks, CA. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Juan Villapando, brothers, Martin and Renee Villarreal, and sisters, Sulema Martinez and Lydia Gonzales. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio. A funeral service to celebrate his life will held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Deacon George Newton officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
