Raymond "Ray" Phipps, age 86, of Pikeville KY, formerly from Defiance, OH, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. Ray was born June 8, 1929 in Pike County Ky to the late Walden Phipps and Lula Ramey Phipps. He is preceded in death by Geneva (Cantrell) Phipps which he married on May 11, 1948, Geneva passed away in 2005. He was retired from General Motors in Defiance, OH, a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church, umpired softball for many years, Co-owned Phipps Sunoco and was a bus driver at Continental Local school.
Besides both of his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Geneva (Cantrell) Phipps; one daughter, Patsy Michelle Phipps; five brothers, Clarence Nelson Phipps, Autie Mason Phipps, Vernis Acey Phipps, James Allen Phipps, Everett Phipps; and two sisters, Alva Hicks and Alcie Lee Hurt.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Phipps, who he married on March 6, 2010; one sister, Dora DeFossett; three sons, James (Guavana) Phipps, Steven (Rachel) Phipps, Dana (Kimberly) Phipps; five daughters, Barbara (Delbert) Densmore, Theresa (Bruce) Miles, Rhonda (Doug) Rau, Vaughnda (Darin) Prowant, and Diane (Les) Bok; one stepdaughter, Katrina (Chris) Brooks; twenty three grandchildren; thirty five great- grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 30, 2015 from 2:00 -8:00 P.M. in Defiance, Ohio at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Masonic Rites service at 7:00 PM. Funeral will be held Friday July 31, 2015 with Rev. Terry Brock officiating at Schaffer Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow in the Myers Cemetery in Ohio.
