Raymond D Mendez, 67, of Defiance, passed away on  Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

He was born on August 16, 1946 to Jose and Andrea (Martinez) Mendez in Wauseon, OH.   On April 29, 1972 he married Wanda (Turner) and she survives.

Raymond was a member of North Mt Zion Church.  He retired from GM Powertrain in 2007 where he was a pattern maker, a Safety representative and a committeeman.  He also served on the Board for MRDD.  Raymond enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his wife,Wanda, sons, Jason (Cristina) Turner of Defiance, Ramon Mendez, II of Defiance, daughter, Sonia (Mason) Scott of Napoleon, grandchildren, Andrea & Marissa Ankney, Alissa Mendez, Emily & Callie Turner, Ramon, III & Dallas Mendez, brothers, Miguel Mendez of Ft Wayne, IN, Nicholas (Sherry) Mendez of Cecil, Jose (Nancy) Mendez of Zion, IL, David (Connie) Mendez of Ney, sisters, Consuelo Thiel of Hammond, LA, Eleanor Estep of Ft. Wayne, IN, Maria (Carl) Fry of Defiance, Amelia Dunderman of Antwerp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Samuel, Moises, Josue, Theodore & Crescenso Mendez, sisters, Mariana Reyes, Ester McHargue, Juana Rodriguez and Atanasia Palacios.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. Brent Gibson officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.

The family request memorials be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
