R. Teresa "Terry" Bird, age 73 of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at her home in Defiance. She was born on June 20, 1949 to the late Jack and Roberta (Hillegas) Byers in Kingman, Arizona. Terry was a 1968 graduate of Warsaw Indiana Community High School. On April 26, 1969 she married Russel Bird, who survives.

Terry was a Girl Scouts Coordinator in Defiance County for several years. She also worked at J.C. Penney in Defiance for 15 years until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of VFW #3360 Auxiliary, and was an avid reader. Terry loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and was known as "Mom" to alot of friends. Terry is survived by her loving husband, Russel Bird of Defiance, her daughters, Robyn (Rex) Coble of Syracuse, IN, and Melissa "Missy" Jaco of Greenup, KY. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, her brother, Richard (Annette) Byers of Indianapolis, IN, and her sisters, Jackie Barrett of Warsaw, IN, Cindy Sarver of Morganfield, KY, and Michelle (Lance) Grubbs of Warsaw, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Merry Huffer. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home, with Deb Miller officiating. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
