Obituary

In Loving Memory of Phyllis Jane Mendenhall

Phyllis Jane Mendenhall, age 93, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering support for her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born December 30, 1932, in Findlay, Ohio, to the late William and Bertha Guyer, she is preceded in death by her husband Bill, sister Norma Jean (Luke) Smalley, and her brother William Guyer.

Phyllis was married for 60 years to the love of her life, William T Mendenhall. She graduated from Miami University. William and Phyllis had two sons, Thomas (Kerry) and Donald, and one daughter, Julie (Keith) Belau.

Phyl found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved painting, spending time on the golf course, working crossword puzzles, and most of all, being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home and heart were always open, and she made every family gathering a little warmer just by being there. She was everyone’s Grandma Phyl.

Grandma Phyl adored her grandchildren: Will, Molly (Evan), Katie, Kylie (Ricky), Kurt (Destry), Nick (Danielle), Donald, Bryce, and great-grandchildren: Beckam, Lane, Brooks, Aidyn, Enzo, and Lana. Phyllis was also beloved “Annie” to her Smalley nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Through every stage of life, Phyllis had a way of making those around her feel loved, valued, and capable. She celebrated others’ successes as if they were her own and took great pride in watching her family grow. From band concerts and sporting events to graduations, birthdays, and countless other milestones, she could always be found cheering from the sidelines with pride and encouragement.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home South, 1753 S. Clinton St, Defiance. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with services.

Phyllis Jane Mendenhall will be remembered always—with love, gratitude, and countless cherished memories.
