Peggy Ann
McGladdery
March 3, 1950 – May 2, 2026
Peggy Ann McGladdery, 76, of Defiance, Ohio passed away May 2, 2026 in her home. Peggy was born to Charles Sr and Juanita (Shirley) Clemins on March 3, 1950 in Hemphill, WV.
Peggy married the love of her life, Hansford McGladdery on September 13, 1975. The two of them shared a loving journey in life until Hansford was called home on December 28, 2006.
Peggy dedicated her life to her children, embracing the role as a stay-at-home mother until 1981. While raising her children, she started selling Tupperware in 1978. She was the top Tupperware sales consultant in 1979 and 1980. In 1981 she started working at Campbell’s Soup in Napoleon, Ohio. Peggy started her long career at Campbell’s Soup as a laborer on the factory floor until she was promoted to factory accounting. Her most defining act of compassion came in the wake of 9/11. Driven by the need to help, Peggy and a group of her closest friends that worked with her traveled to New York City during the Christmas season of 2001 to assist a family that lost a loved one in the World Trade Center.
Her home was the epicenter of family gatherings and known for its festive decorations. Whether she was creating a spectacular Christmas and Thanksgiving feast, hiding eggs for Easter, or hosting her children and grandchildren’s birthday parties, she ensured everyone felt welcomed, and loved. Known for her generous heart, she believed in creating joyful moments. She was most proud of her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her fondest memories were of her family gathered in her home together.
Peggy is survived by her beloved children, Julia Snyder and Starr (William) Winkler, her children by marriage, Garnet McGladdery and Marlene Sutton. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Jacob (Sarah) Lugibihl, Dylan (Logan) Lugibihl, Charles Elder, Roman (Katlyn) Osborn, Lauren (Dustin) Tackett, Schuylar (Shelbi) Winkler, Austin (Megan) Yant, Zachery (Christina) Brobst, Danielle (Daniel) Bevers, Anakin Scott, and Madison Murbach and 23 great-grandchildren, and devoted friend of over 50 years, Karen Sparks and a special friend Christine Traina.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her beloved children; Harold Cook, Jr and Celesta Murbach, brothers; Charles Clemins Jr, Donald Clemins, Jerry Clemins, and Robert Clemins, a sister Linda Cartwright, and a great-granddaughter, Azura Skye Yant.
Following Peggy’s wishes, a private ceremony was held in her honor with her family and close friends on May 7th at Schaffer Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her husband in a mausoleum at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
In remembrance of Peggy’s life, the family welcomes donations to help with the families unexpected expenses.
