Peggy I. Bruce, 85, of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Wednesday morning, July 3, 2019 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on August 14, 1933 to Corbin and Bonnie (Starnes) Brickey in Fort Blackmore, Virginia. In 1951 she married James "JG" Bruce, who preceded her in death on January 24, 1998. Peggy worked for several years at TG&Y, and G.C. Murphy in Defiance. She was a member of Defiance Moose Lodge #2094. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching TV. Peggy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Peggy is survived by her son, James "Ed" Bruce of Defiance, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brother, Jim Bo (Evelyn) Brickey of Gate City, VA, sisters, Shelby Greear of Nickelsville, VA, and Barb (George) Wells of Defiance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bruce, her son, Gary Bruce, granddaughter, Lisa Bruce, and sister, Rita Phelps. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Timothy Reynolds officiating. Burial will take place at Myers Cemetery.
