Defiance – Pedro O. Gonzales (Pete) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. Pete was born on April 15, 1938. He was the son of the late Jesus and Lucinda Gonzalez of Kennedy, Texas. Pete is survived by his loving spouse of 48 years, Theodora Delgado Gonzales, married on April 11, 1964 in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hamler, Ohio. He was the proud father of two daughters Lisa Mann (Ellis) of Lafayette, Indiana and Diana Kuhn (Charles) of Cincinnati, Ohio and two sons Jessie Mendoza (Lee Ann) of Oakwood, Ohio and Daniel Mendoza (Linda) of Defiance, Ohio. As well as two sons and two daughters from a previous marriage Oscar Gonzalez (Cindy) and Ruben Gonzalez (Jolene), Becky Escobar (Reynaldo) and Della Niese (Doug) all of Leipsic, Ohio. He was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was a caring brother to six sisters Elisa Benavidez of Othello, Washington, Irma Gonzalez of McAllen, Texas, Lupe Gutierrez (deceased), Olivia Hernandez (deceased), Josefina Hernandez (deceased), and Amelia Chavez (deceased) and two brothers Robert Gonzalez of Dayton, Ohio and Jesse Gonzalez Jr.(Sally) of Othello, Washington. Pete worked at General Motors (GM) for 35 years as a fork truck driver and was a UAW Committee man, retiring in 1995. In retirement he volunteered at Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio, Furniture Bank, Knights of Columbus Fish Fry, St. Mary Noodle Club, and Democratic Representative of Precinct 2D. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Defiance, Ohio where he served in the Eucharistic Ministry, Parish Council, Knights of Columbus and the RCIA Program. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and the Indianapolis Colts. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 2:00pm-8:00pm with a vigil at 7:00pm at Hanenkratch-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Homes, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, Ohio with Father Randy Giesige officiating.
