Paul W. Voigt, 78, of Defiance, was a loving husband, devoted father, a caring grandfather and great grandfather. He went to his eternal home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 following a long battle with cancer.
Paul was born on May 16, 1937 to Gust and Helen (Mollett) Voigt in Holgate, Ohio. He was a 1955 graduate of Defiance High School. On August 18, 1956 he married Darlene (Blake) Voigt, who resides in Defiance. Paul worked at G.H. Voigt Company in Defiance from 1956 to 1976, and was Owner/ President of Paul Voigt & Associates in 1976 to his retirement in 2006. Paul had a deep faith. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was an Elder. His other passions were his family and friends. Paul was a master wood craftsman. He loved traveling the country in his RV and boating. He was a very caring man who always put others before himself.
Paul is survived by his loving spouse of 59 years, wife Darlene Voigt of Defiance, daughters, Joan (Dennis) Bowers, Jennifer (Chuck) Florence, Mary Jane (Greg) Miller, of Defiance, and Rebecca (David) Herring of Florida. Grandchildren Paul Bowers, Lisa Maxwell, Sallyann Miles, Emily Collins, Rebecca Flory, Charlie Florence, Matthew Nance, Julie Nance, Ryan Herring, Kayla Herring, Ben Miller and Blake Miller, sister Mary Camp, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece Hope Holley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gust and Helen Voigt, brothers, George, Eugene, Richard, James, Louis and Joseph Voigt, and sister, Margaret Carpenter.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Pastor Lee Ginter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.
