Obituary

Paul (Dar) Darwood Hohenberger Paul (Dar) Darwood Hohenberger, 84, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born in Defiance on October 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Orville C. and Blanche (Eitniear) Hohenberger. On Nov. 4, 1950, he married Ilene C. Mack in St. John Catholic Church by Rev. Donald R. Klaus. Dar will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Ilene: daughter: Jane (Tom) Allen of Defiance, sons: Dan (Tina) Hohenberger of Defiance, Joe (Diane) Hohenberger of Big Rapids, Mich., Mike (Mary) Hohenberger of Paulding, sisters: Emmajean Stork of Defiance, Ann Deepe of Bryan, brother: Cleon (Minnie) Hohenberger of Defiance, brother in law: Jim (Carolyn) Mack of Defiance, sister in law: Dorothy Mack, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brother: Darlene, brothers in law: Harry Hahn, Bud Phillips, Paul Mack, Richard Stork, Charles Deepe, Sister in law: Madonna Hahn. Dar was a member of St. John Catholic Church, a former lay distributor and nursing home distributor. He was a member of Council 1039 Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight and officer. A member of Bishop Rappe Assembly #824 Knights of Columbus and a former Faithful Navigator and officer. A life member of VFW Post # 3360 and a former officer and member of the burial detail. A life member of Amvets Post 1991. A member of the Emerald Auglaize Fox Club and the Elks Lodge #147. Dar was employed for 46 years, as a salesman and driver, by the Home Oil Company and Schultz Oil Company retiring in December 1996. A Navy veteran of World War Two, stationed in the South Pacific theater Oct. 1945 - Oct. 1948 aboard the USS Roosevelt. Dar traveled the world- visiting most all countries. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9th, at St. John Catholic Church with Father Todd Dominic officiating. Visitation is Tuesday 2-9 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with an 8:00 Vigil Service Tuesday. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard 6-8p.m. Tuesday evening. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post #3360 will conduct honorary military rites. Suggested memorials are to the Holy Cross Catholic School or the VFW Funeral Detail.
