Obituary

Patrick James Relyea, 75, of Defiance, passed away on Friday July 26, 2024 at The Laurels of Defiance. He was born on January 24, 1949 to the late Glen and Norma (Burkhart) Relyea in Defiance, Ohio. Patrick graduated from Defiance High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Defiance, Defiance Eagles #372, and Defiance VFW #3360. Patrick was a loyal Detroit Tigers and Michigan Wolverines fan. He golfed almost every day and also enjoyed bowling. Patrick is survived by his sisters, Ann Bachellor and Cecilia Relyea, and his Significant Other Jo Ann Diemer, all of Defiance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Timothy and Michael Relyea, and his sisters, Virginia Relyea, Norma Jean Appel, Jane Philpot, Theresa Relyea, and Dolores Cereghin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Joseph Annex at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Patrick will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by VFW #3360.
