September 20, 1927 – September 23, 2012
Westerville – Orville R Heilshorn, 85, formerly of Defiance, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at his daughter's home with his family surrounding him. He was born on March 20, 1927, in Junction, the son of Orville W and Christina (Groh) Heilshorn. Orville was a 1945 graduate of Defiance High School. On August 27, 1949, he married Alice (Punkie) Huff of Oakwood, OH.
He was a devoted Christian and family man. He enjoyed being with family and friends playing cards, pool, ping pong, bowling, golfing and traveling. He also enjoyed supporting and cheering on his children and grandchildren in their many activities. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Defiance where he served many years as an usher and was part of the Berean Sunday School class. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a member of UAW 211. He worked at General Motors for over 40 years, mostly as a timekeeper. He served as secretary for many bowling leagues, member of the Auglaize Golf Club and was a member of the National Association of Realtors.
Orville is survived by his wife, Alice (Punkie) Heilshorn, Westerville; three sons, Robert (Jean) Heilshorn, William (Shelley) Heilshorn both of Lewis Center and Steven (Leslie) Heilshorn, Paulding; two daughters, Kathy (Ken) Kaye, Chandler, AZ and Karen (Kevin) Shock, Westerville; twenty three grandchildren, Joshua Heilshorn, Rachel (Richard) Monroe, Katie Heilshorn, Billy (Amy) Heilshorn, Joe (Kelli) Heilshorn, Christen (Christian) Snavely, Travis Heilshorn, Hayden Heilshorn, Sawyer Heilshorn, Truman Heilshorn, Quincy Heilshorn, Kory (Brittany) Kaye, Kevin Kaye, Kyler Kaye, Karson Kaye, Kaitlyn Kaye, Keagan Kaye, Samuel Heilshorn, Benjamin Heilshorn, Alyssa (Kevin) Good, Andrew Shock, Alayna Shock, Alanson Shock; ten great grandchildren; one brother Donald Heilshorn, Defiance; two sisters, Ruth Gray, Defiance and Patricia Christy, Oregon, OH; one step brother, William Stone, Ashtabula; two step sisters, Betty Billmaer, Toledo, and Florence Myers, Bradenton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Heilshorn; three sisters, Vada Bauer, D'Nelle Brown, Eileen Cubberly; one grandson, Isaiah Steven Heilshorn; one great grandson, Dima Lee Heilshorn.
Visitation will be Tuesday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanenkrath- Clevenger- Schaffer Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be on Wednesday at Riverview Memorial Gardens, with a memorial service at Trinity United Methodist Church at 5 p.m. officiating done by his children, Pastor Robert Heilshorn, William Heilshorn, Kathy Kaye, Pastor Steven Heilshorn and Karen Shock.
