Oleta Hasselschwert Oleta Irene (Pumphrey) Hasselschwert, 84, of Defiance, passed away Thursday morning April 28, 2016 at the Laurels, in Defiance, Ohio. She was born on January 27th, 1932 to Tom and Anna Faye (Campbell) Pumphrey in Weston, West Virginia. Oleta was a member of the Defiance Church of the Brethren. She had worked at General Motors in Defiance for 25 years. She loved family, laughing and playing bingo. Oleta was known for giving an "ass chewing" to everyone and anyone. Oleta is survived by brothers Frank, Bud, James, Paul and Roger Pumphrey and children from marriage with Virgil Hasselschwert Sr: Barb (Jack) Reed, Virgil "Buddy" (Marsha) Hasselschwert Jr., and Connie (Stan) Holbrook, 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Anna Faye (Campbell) Pumphrey, husband Virgil "Bud" Hasselschwert, brother Roy Thomas Pumphrey, and sisters Mary Bonnet, Ethel Sprouse, Meryl Ware, and Betty Donaldson. Viewing will be held at Lawson - Roessner on Monday May 2, 2016 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 3, 2016, at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Suggested memorials are for Breast Cancer in care of the American Cancer Society.
