Norman James "Jim"  Herder, 65, of Bryan, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Community Hospital in Bryan, Ohio. He was born on April 3, 1950 to Norman and Virginia (Hasselschwert) Herder in Defiance. He was a 1968 graduate of Defiance High School. On June 22, 1974 he married Shelley (Kinder) Herder, who resides in Bryan. Jim was a Vietnam U.S. Army Veteran. He worked at General Motors in Defiance, and was a life member of VFW Post #3360, and a life member of  the AmVets. Jim was an Outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, arrowhead collecting, mushroom foraging, and fishing on Lake Erie. He loved spending time with his family and beloved grandson, Jesse. They were the center of his life. Jim is survived by his loving spouse of  41 years, Shelley Herder of Bryan, sons, Joseph (Shana) Herder of Farmer, Ohio, Jonathan Herder and Eric Herder of Bryan, daughter, Lindsey Herder of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, grandson, Jesse James Herder, sister, Ginny L. Fisher of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, mother-in-law, Linda Kinder of Defiance, many aunts, uncles, extended family, loving friends, and his dog "Lela" and cat "Cool Cat". He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Virginia Herder, and a sister Susan Herder, in infancy. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Kevin Kellum officiating.
