Nellis F. Greek, 86, of Defiance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, September 27, 2014. He passed away with his family by his side at the CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born February 7, 1928 in Pioneer, Ohio to the late Floyd and Mary (Delcamp) Greek.
He was raised in West Unity, Ohio. He graduated from Hilltop High School and then served in the Marines during the Korean War. Following his enlistment, he returned to attend Tri-State College and was a member of the Sigma Mu Sigma Fraternity chapter. He graduated in 1955 with a degree in business.
On January 1, 1955 he married Nancy C. Hollinger in Angola, Indiana and lived in Defiance, Ohio for 57 years. He was employed as the payroll and timekeeping supervisor at General Motors for 4o years, retiring in 1990.
In the 1980's, he was the Defiance County Chapter president for the Right to Life. He served on the board of directors at the Defiance Employees Own Federal Credit Union from 1993-1998. He was a member of Harvestlife Fellowship where he was an elder and on the board of directors for many years.
Nellis was adored by all that knew him. Everyone loved his quick wit and kind and loving nature. He was a true man of God and shared the love of Jesus Christ to so many throughout his lifetime. To his wife and children he was the most loving, giving and selfless husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a brother Arlyn R. (Marlou) Greek of Bryan, Ohio; sons, Gary A. Greek of Defiance and Daniel S. (Lyn) Greek of the Philippines; daughters, Amy M. Weaks and Melissa K. (Mark) Schnitkey, both of Defiance. 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He also had 3 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eldar Greek and a grandchild Cory James.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Harvestlife Fellowship, SR 424 West, Defiance with visitation one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military rites.
