S. Nancy Byam, 80, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Paulding County Hospital. She was born on March 7, 1934 to Wilfred and Svea (Brask) Pollitt in Orange, NJ. On June 30, 1956 she married Donald F. Byam and he preceded her in death on September 28, 2009.

Nancy was a 1952 DeVilbiss High School graduate and a Miami University graduate in 1956. She earned her Masters of Education Degree from Bowling Green State University. Nancy then taught at Toledo Public Schools and Ayersville Local Schools. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority, and First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and an elder. Nancy also enjoyed bridge club, life at the lake, reading and knitting.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina (Jeff) Stellhorn of Defiance, daughter-in-law Jodie Byam of Findlay, grandchildren, Chelsey Mestrez of Findlay, Noah Byam of Findlay and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Thomas of Findlay. She was also preceded in death by son, Tom Byam and granddaughter, Grace Byam.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 07, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, am at the funeral home. with Rev. Eric Peltz officiating. Burial will follow in Evansport Cemetery.
