Obituary

Milo A. Crockett, age 86, of Ayersville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center,surrounded by his family. He was born on November 25, 1932 to Pliny and Mathilda (Yackee) Crockett in Defiance County, Ohio. Milo was a 1950 graduate of Ayersville High School.  On July 21, 1951 he married Donna (Wolf) Crockett, who resides in Ayersville. Milo was a lifelong farmer, and also worked for several years at General Motors in Defiance until his retirement in 1980.

Milo was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He served as a member of The Omega Masonic Lodge, Ayersville Telephone Board, Ayersville Education Foundation, Ridge Runners Council, and the Ayersville Elevator Board.  He was the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation Hall of Fame recipient in March, 2019. Milo enjoyed the farm life, weeds feared him.  He was the first State Farmer from Ayersville School in 1950. Milo will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Donna Crockett of Ayersville, son, Larry (Brenda) Crockett of Perrysburg, OH, and daughter, Peg  (David) Rieke of Defiance. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren; Shelby (Brian) Bratt, Brett (Rachelle) Rieke, Shane (Abi) Rieke, Jason Crockett and Janell Crockett. He also leaves behind his sister, Ardith Karnes of Defiance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brothers, Wilbur Durham and Francis Durham, and a brother in infancy, Malcolm Crockett. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 23rd at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Schlicher officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 pm at Ayersville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Ayersville FFA, Ayersville Education Foundation, Ayersville Athletic Boosters, St. Paul's Food Pantry or CHP Defiance Area Hospice Center.
