Miguel V. Hernandez Sr., age 92, of Defiance, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at his residence. He was born in Weslaco, Texas on July 5, 1933 to the late Amador and Sabastiana (Vasquez) Hernandez. On November 12, 1955 he married the love of his life, Beatriz Rodriguez, who survives. Miguel was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and attended daily Mass. He loved the Lord and Virgin Mary and was a big supporter of his church. Miguel worked at General Motors for over 25 years until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family, and he enjoyed exercising, walking and being outdoors, and sitting on his porch or in the park. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Miguel is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Beatriz Hernandez of Defiance, his children, Amador M. (Alice) Hernandez, Mario (Leslie) Hernandez, Renaud Hernandez, Linda (Martin) Hernandez, and Miguel Hernandez Jr., daughter-in-law Yolanda Hernandez, brother Ascension Hernandez, and sisters Lydia Gasnarez and Minga Gonzalez. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Armando Hernandez, grandson Jamie Hernandez, granddaughter Angel Nicole Doan, brothers Jose Hernandez and Ebodio Hernandez, and sister Elida Molina. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 2-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, April 13th at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin McGraw officiating. Miguel will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
