Obituary

Michael A. Sobota, 59, of Defiance, my million dollar angel, lost his fight with multiple myeloma on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at The Cleveland Clinic. He was born on  October 2, 1956 to Sgt. Philip and Melva (Beuten) Sobota in Oxfordshire, England. On September 27, 1980 he married Sharon (Bowers) Sobota, who resides in Defiance. Michael was a fun loving person who was always there to lend a hand. He was the biggest Green Bay Packer fan around, with Ohio State Buckeyes right behind. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and all the children at Leaping and Learning.  Michael served in the Air Force for 3 years. He owned and operated Defiance Truck and Transfer for about 11 years. Michael worked for Century 21-Strait Realty for 20 years before going to Sam Switzer Realty for the last year and a half. Michael was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance. He was a member of Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce, Board of Realtors, Defiance Elks, Eagles, and American Legion. Michael is survived by his wife, Sharon Sobota of Defiance, a daughter by a previous marriage, Cristal France and her husband Bobby and their children Alexis and Tyus, sons Nathaniel and Daniel (Cynthia Sproles), and their children Juan and Trevor, brothers Howie (Deb) Sobota, Anthony (Joan) Sobota, Andrew (Debi) Sobota, sisters, Karan Gottwald, Phyllis (Phil) Nusbaum, Melva (Randy) Strait, and Jane (Jeff) Deming, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, niece, Laura Deming, and great nephew, Daniel Chupp. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
