It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mike (Michael) Thomas Shinners (64) a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on May 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Born on June 28, 1961, he lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and devotion to family.
Mike is survived by his dearly loved wife of 43 years, Shelley (Yenser) Shinners, with whom he shared his life. He was an incredibly proud and fun-loving father to his sons, Matthew Shinners (fiancée Sarah), Chase (Calla) Shinners, and Kelly (Valerie) Parks and a doting grandfather to his three grandsons, Nash and Malcolm Shinners and Atticus Parks.
Whether he was acting as a dedicated uncle, a supportive brother-in-law, or a steadfast friend, he brought warmth and laughter to everyone he met. Known for his ornery sense of humor and his selfless nature, he was always the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. A master of his trade, he dedicated over 40 years to his career as an Industrial Mechanic at GT Technologies approaching every challenge with skill and precision.
He was a man always on the go, never one to sit still. He could most often be found working in his shop, meticulously laboring over any project that sparked his interest. Beyond the shop, he was an avid pool player and loved riding his RZR with his wife and friends, seeking out the next trail and the freedom of the great outdoors. Whether he was lost in a new project or brightening a room with his humor, his generous nature left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply and sincerely missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Rita Shinners. He is survived by his brothers, Dave (Wendy), Jim (Mina), and Kevin (Michelle) Shinners; his sister, Joyce (Mike) Stecher; and a large, loving extended family who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Mike’s life on May 31st at The Defiance Church of the Brethren, 313 Washington Ave, Defiance, OH, visitation is 1pm until service at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or CHP Home Care and Hospice.
