Michael J. Meyer, age 63 of Defiance, passed away on Thursday morning, December 16, 2021 at Mercy Defiance Hospital with his family at his bedside. He was born on August 24, 1958 to James and Nancy (Armbruster) Meyer in Bedford, England. On May 13, 2010 he married Marly (Taylor) Meyer, who survives. Mike was the National Sales Manager for Ensto USA. Mike was an avid sports fan. He worked as a radio commentator for WONW 1280 and WZOM 105.7 announcing football and basketball games for Defiance High School. Mike volunteered with DASH, and always took great pride in everything he did. Mike was a Defiance High School Band SOUSA Award winner, and president of the Defiance Band Boosters. He will be forever known as a real band geek. He was a fan of Defiance High School Baseball and attended all his grandson's games. Mike attended The Ohio State University and was an avid fan of anything related to The Ohio State Buckeyes.
His greatest love of all was for his loving wife, Marly. He enjoyed spending time in his pool, cooking on his Blackstone and being with his family. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mike is survived by his loving wife Marly, his mother, Nancy Meyer of Defiance, and his children; Anthony (Ashley) Meyer of Vandalia, OH, Michael (Emalee) Meyer of Mark Center, OH, Arin (Shannon) Washburn of Toledo, OH, Heather (B.J.) Stites of Defiance, and Ashley (Michael) Westfall of West Unity, OH. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, three grandchildren on the way, his sister, Michele (David) Wisner of Parma, MI, and his feline friends, Humphrey, Bogie and Pepper. He was preceded in death by his father, James Meyer, granddaughter, Amelia Meyer, and grandson, Abram Miller. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street, Defiance). The family would like everyone to wear your Ohio State attire, or to please dress casually. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Joe Silva officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated, a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
