Melissa June (Waxler) Hernandez, age 45 of Defiance, sadly passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. She was born on March 4, 1977 to George "Skip" Waxler Jr. and Lisa (Jackman) Buchenberg. Many knew her by "Misty". She married Jamie Hernandez Sr. and together they had 4 children. She loved music, rock hunting, her family and her dogs. Melissa also enjoyed seeing her loved ones smile.

Melissa is survived by her father, George Waxler Jr., her mother and stepfather, Lisa and Jerry Buchenberg, her sister Kelly Stephens, her children; Jamie Hernandez Jr., Cornelia Hernandez and Angelina Hernandez, grandmother Delores Younker, and her aunt and uncle, Carol and Harold Lee. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 4 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, George Waxler Sr. and Judy McBride, her son, James Hernandez, stepmother Deborah Waxler, aunts and uncles, Karen Waxler, Jeff Waxler, and Gary Emerson, along with her fur babies, Zeighlord Uggie Stinky Beak Tripp and Jersey Girl Hernandez. There will be no services at this time. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
