Matthew Clay Vardinakis, 55, of Evansport, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at his residence.

He was born on November 7, 1970 to Emanuel and Mary (Reiber) Vardinakis in Toledo, Ohio. Matthew attended school at Swanton HS and graduated from Penta Career Center. He proudly served and worked for The United States Air Force from March 1991 to April 1997, where he was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Alconbury Royal Air Force Base (England). Matthew was awarded the Airman's Medal for his extraordinary bravery above and beyond normal duty.

He enjoyed collecting and shooting guns. Matthew was a real outdoors enthusiast and survivalist who loved to work with his hands.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Emanuel and Mary Vardinakis; sons, Eric (Addison) Vardinakis, Keith Vardinakis, and Matthew John Vardinakis; his sister, Maritza (Tim) Wherry; significant other, Sarah Sampson; step-children, Cody Sampson, Chelsea (Brandon) Wilbur, and Caleb Sampson, and step-grandchildren, Bentley Wilburand and Khaleesi Sampson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emanuel and Estella Vardinakis and Charles and Sylvia Reiber.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Evansport Fire Station, 1258 S Main St, Evansport, OH 43519, on Saturday July 18th form 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
