Obituary

Mary Lee Wiseman age 86 of Defiance died peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, July 4, 2017. She was born on November 10, 1930 in Defiance, Ohio the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine (Ackerman) Van Vlerah. On May 24, 1947 she married Jack G Wiseman at St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2000. Mary graduated from Defiance High School and attended Northwest State Community College. She devoted much of her working years to helping families in distress, particularly working with the homeless and abused. She was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church where in her younger years, was an active Church Choir Member, confirmation instructor, and volunteered in the Cub Scouts program. Mary was a strong supporter of veterans having served as past President of American Legion # 117 Auxiliary, a past officer in AMVETS Post 1991 Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Post 3360 Auxiliary. Mary loved to spend time with her family and especially with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially excited anticipating the upcoming birth of a great-great grandchild to Justin and Ce'Anna. She is survived by two sons: Tim (Ginny) Wiseman - Defiance Tom Wiseman - Defiance A daughter: Mary Catherine (Eugene) Walters - Defiance A Son-in-law: Dave(Linda) Lulfs Brother James (Penny) Van Vlearh) - West Unity, Ohio 8 Grandchildren and 24 Great-Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a daughter Peggy Lee (Wiseman) Lulfs and her sister Norma Jean Smith. Visitation for Mary will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. An AMVETS service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July, 7, 2017, at St Mary Catholic Church with Father Randy Geisiege Officiating.
