Mary Ann (Weidenhamer) Bishop, 95, formerly of Defiance, OH, passed away on Friday, 11/21/2014 at Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice Home in Edwardsville, IL. Mary Ann was born in Defiance on December 7 th , 1918 to Richard and Irene (Hoeffel) Weidenhamer. She married Clayton "Bud" Bishop on July 19, 1939 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance, OH.
Mary Ann was a dedicated homemaker and worked multiple part-time jobs over the years including; Meek's Bakery, Chief Supermarket, and in the dietary department at Defiance City Schools. Mary Ann was a long-time, faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, active in choir, the Altar Society and the Noodle Club. Mary Ann was well-known for her lovely singing voice and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends, traveling with her husband, visiting children and grandchildren, and playing cards and bingo.
Mary Ann and Bud retired to Zephyrhills and Spring Hills, FL in 1980, returning to Defiance in 1999. In 2005, they moved to The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL, to live closer to their eldest daughter. Mary Ann moved to Villa Catherine Assisted Living in Carlyle, IL after the death of her husband in 2011.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clayton, an infant daughter, a son Bob, sister Dorothy Weidenhamer Spangler, three brothers; Bob, John, and Jim Weidenhamer, and a daughter-in-law, Jane Leever Bishop.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Marv Schatz of O'Fallon, IL; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Carol Bishop of Defiance; daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Tom Friedel of Grove City, PA; son, Bill Bishop of Oak Harbor, OH; seven grandchildren; Steve Schatz, Jeff Schatz, Dave Schatz, Kelly (Bishop) Willett, Matt Bishop, Amber Bishop, and Christy Lehner; 15 great grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters; Grett Davis of Defiance and Jeanne Chastain of Barberton, OH.
Friends may call at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, OH on Friday, November 28 th 2014, from 4-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 29 th , 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, OH.
Interment will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens immediately following Mass.
Memorial Donations in Mary Ann's name may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the donor's choice.
