Obituary

Mary M. Keller, 84, of Defiance, passed away on  Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Defiance.

She was born on January 27, 1930 to Edward and Mary (Kunesh) Sponsler in Paulding County, OH.  On May 19, 1951 she married Donald L. Keller and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1992.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, its Altar Rosary Society and served as a greeter at the church as well.  She was office manager with United Telephone Company from 1948 - 1985.  Mary was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Junction.  She was a member of St. Maximillion Vocations, DASH, Red Cross, and an American Cancer Society volunteer.  Mary was also a member of the Auglaize Volunteer Fire Department Axuiliary, the John Paulding Historical Society, Paulding County Hospital Auxiliary, the NW Ohio Telephone Pioneers/ITPA, the Defiance American Legion Auxiliary, life member of Defiance Eagles Auxiliary, Paulding County Senior Center and the Defiance Moose Lodge Auxiliary.  She was a former CCD teacher for many years.  Mary loved music, dancing, volunteering and encouraging others to get involved.  .
Mary is survived by her sister, Betty Chandler of Defiance,  nephews, Lynn (Becky) Keller, Bret (Jody) Keller, John (Beth) Curtzwiler and a niece, Jane (Craig) Hasselschwert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew, Jim Curtzwiler, great nephew, Noah Keller, brother-in-law, Jim Keller and sister-in-law, Virginia Curtzwiler.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Rosary Service will be held at 2 pm.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father John Stites officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens.
The family request memorials be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
