Mary C. Shaffer, age 64 of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on September 28, 1958 to Frank and JoAnn (Daddino) Morawski in Illinois. On March 28, 1999 she married Roger A. Shaffer, who preceded her in death on August 18, 2017. Mary was a member of Defiance Moose Lodge #2094 and Eagles #372, where she was a bartender for several years. She was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears. Mary loved her family, and her most cherished moments were spent with her grandson Bryant. Mary had a giant personality, extremely outgoing, very easy to talk to and never met a stranger. She will be sadly missed by her family and many good friends. Mary is survived by her daughter, Darci (Jason Burkhart) Wendell of Defiance, her son, Todd (Kaitlin) Wendell of Defiance, stepson, Shane (Amy) Shaffer of Oakwood, stepdaughter, Shawna (Rudy) Burkley of Payne, OH, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings; Frank (Vicki) Morawski, Patty White, both of Defiance, Tony Morawski of Chicago, IL, and Debbie Sego of South Bend, IN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roger Shaffer, and her brother Gene Morawski. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Hospice.
