Mary L. Schriner

Mary Louise Schriner, 98, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Glenn Park Assisted Living.

She was born on May 7, 1928 to John and Frances (Moser) Ryan in Defiance, Ohio. On January 27, 1951 she married John "Jack" Schriner who preceded her in death on February 7, 2020. Mary worked at First Federal Bank for 26 years.

Mary was a woman of deep faith which guided her life and the way she cared for her family. She was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and she enjoyed giving her time to many parish activities. She participated in the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Mary's Noodle Club, assisted with funeral dinners, helped with the church festival, and was a money counter.

Her cheerful nature and positive outlook were a blessing to all who knew her. She found great joy and pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. She expressed her creativity through sewing, quilting, and all forms of needlework, leaving behind many handmade treasures.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan (Bill) Moats of Sherwood, two grandchildren, Lindsay (Jack) Davis and their children, Jackson and Kendall of Tipp City, and Michael (Maria) Moats and their children, Carter and Ava of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Robert and Bernard Ryan, two sisters, Joanne Davis and Kathleen Homer, and granddaughter Kristi Russel-Moats.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church, with a Mass of Christian burial following at 11:00 am, officiated by Fr. David Cirata. Mary will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
