Mary Lou Zachrich, age 89 of Ayersville, passed away on Wednesday evening, April 10, 2019, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on June 19, 1929, in Defiance to the late Galen and Ruth (Keller) Schelling. On October 29, 1949, she married Paul F. Zachrich, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2017.

Mary Lou was a faithful member of Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Farm Bureau. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed baking cookies, playing cards, making noodles, gardening, word search puzzles, and the Detroit Tigers. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mary Lou will be sadly missed by her children; Tom (Jane) Zachrich, Ron (Linda) Zachrich, and Connie Zachrich, six grandchildren; Tom Zachrich, Chad (Kim) Zachrich, Carrie (Chad) Kaup, Nathaniel (Samantha) Zachrich, Matthew (Evin) Zachrich, and Jon (Sarah) Zachrich, great-grandchildren; Brandon Zachrich, Austin-Nichole Huebner, Adam Zachrich, Abby Zachrich, Ella Kaup, Calvin Zachrich, Sadie Zachrich, and Kamryn Zachrich, great-great-granddaughters; Scarlett and Violet Huebner, and her sister, Janas Scantlen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Zachrich, and brothers Bernard and Robert Schelling. Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Jim Brown officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
