Mary Joan "Jo" Grogg, 85, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at her residence.
She was born on December 28, 1929 to Paul and Ethel (Coulter) Leifer, and married Lee H. Grogg on November 30, 1952. Jo graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School in Napoleon, and from Napoleon High School in 1947. She attended St. John Lutheran Church in Stryker, Ohio. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and enjoyed spending her time with her family. She worked at the telephone company in Napoleon and Defiance, and after marriage she worked for Dr. Coit Black and Dr. G.A. Huber for 25 years. After retirement she worked for Hills and Ames part-time. Jo enjoyed volunteering and was active at Slocum School, St. John Lutheran School COS (Christ Our Savior), the hospital auxiliary, and was active in Business and Professional Women. Jo enjoyed researching Geneology, and was a life member at the library, where she volunteered for years. Jo was also a co-owner of Leslie's Dress Shop.
Mary Jo will be sadly missed by her family; daughter Leslie (Randy) King of Defiance, three grandchildren; L. Nicole (David) Balzarini of Peoria, Arizona, Dustin (Sarah) Beilke of Indiana, and Lissa (Kevin) Koffler of Wilmington, North Carolina, great-grandchildren; Trathen and Cheston Koffler, Brayden, Brant and Brooke Balzarini, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald, Paul, and Carl Leifer, and sister Ruth Crawford.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Lee Genter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
