Mary (Ibarra) Gutierrez, 78, of Defiance passed away early Saturday morning, August 22, 2015 at the Toledo Hospital. She was born on July 6, 1937 in Waelder, Texas to Isabel and Concepcion (Hernandez) Melchor. Mary was a long time member of St. John Catholic Church. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, family, and friends. On October 13, 1958 she married Alfredo Ibarra, who preceded her in death. She married Paul Gutierrez Sr. on January 8, 1972, who also preceded her in death. Mary will be sadly missed by her children Margaret (Phillip) Lirot, Rebecca Burns, Barbie (Michael) Mullins, and Jamie Ibarra. Step-children Sandy (Lalo) Jimenez, Paul (Norma) Gutierrez Jr., Anitia (Tom) Adams, Hector Gutierrez, Connie (Steve) Gonzalez, and George (Belinda) Gutierrez, She was very proud of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Melchor, Enrique Melchor, and Isabel Melchor Jr., and granddaughter Carie Burns. She is also survived by loving brothers and sisters Paula Vargas, Narcisa Delgado, Louisa Lopez, Eulogio Melchor, Martha Melchor, Margaret Melchor, Oscar Melchor, Samuel Melchor, and Alonzo Melchor. Friends may call at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Wednesday, from 5:00-9:00 pm. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 PM. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at St. John Catholic Church on Thursday, August 27 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Cross Catholic School or Interim Healthcare.
