Gertrude (Maag) Deitrick

Mary "Gert" Gertrude Deitrick, 91, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Advanced Specialty Hospital in Lucas County, OH.
She was born on June 14, 1923 in Defiance. She was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Randolph) Maag. In 1951 she married William F. Deitrick who died in 1976.
She graduated from Defiance High School in 1941. She was an employee of the State Bank and Trust and retired from the Dinner Bell Company in 1988 as Cashier. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic and its Altar Society, the Fifty-Five Plus Club, a former Parish Council member, Eucharist Minister, Bible study leader, money counter and received the Distinguished Graduate Award for St. Mary's School in 1993 and a volunteer for St. Mary School.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary (Greg) Jones, step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Deitrick, 3 grandchildren, Kelly (Jeremie) Thiel, Kara (Ryan) Miller, Kirk Jones, 3 step-grandchildren, Christine (Ty) Guilliam, John (Dorianne) Deitrick and Carrie (Joe) Relyea. She was great-grandmother to Kailee and Kelsie Thiel, Hannah, Kendall, and Brooklyn Miller, step-great-grandmother to Tory, Trey and Arianna Guilliam, Abigail and Meghan Deitrick, Jessica, Colton, and Aubrey Relyea and one sister Marian Gump.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers, Robert "Duke" Maag, James Maag, and a step-son, Robert Deitrick.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. on Friday, August 01, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A Vigil Service will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 with Father Ed Schleter officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
The family request memorials be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church and/or to a charity of the donor's choice.
