Mary M. Sheets, age 91 of New Bavaria, Ohio, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, June 20, 2022 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born in Hamler, Ohio on May 11, 1931 to the late Philip and Rose (Dibling) Cavanaugh. She was married to Paul H. Sheets for many years until his death in 2002. Mary was a faithful member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Defiance and the Altar Rosary Society. She was a cook at the Defiance Healthcare Center and Glenwood Nursing Home for several years. Mary was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who treasured her time spent with her family. Mary is survived by five sons; Douglas (Billie) Sheets of Deshler, OH, Kenneth Sheets of Fremont, IN, Andrew (Karen) Sheets of Stryker, OH, Jeffery (Cheryl) Sheets of New Bavaria, OH, and Matthew Sheets of Hamler, OH, and two daughters; Yvonne Sheets of Defiance and Rose Ann (Dan) Froelich of Cecil, OH. She also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her brother, Patrick Cavanaugh of Ottawa, OH, her sister, Madonna (George) Alt of Phoenix, AZ, daughter-in-law Lynda Sheets of Wauseon, OH, and sister-in-law, Janet Cavanaugh of Custar, OH. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Sheets, her son, Daniel Sheets, three brothers; Michael, Anthony and Robert Cavanaugh, and her sisters, Veronica Foose and Teresa Panning. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Rosary Service will be at 10:00 am A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, or St. Michael's Building Fund.
