Mary Hernandez, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 16, 1952, in Defiance, Ohio, Mary was the daughter of the late Lupe and Guadalupe (Garza) Basquez.

Mary is survived by her two loving children, Earl (Amanda) Jones of Tempe, Arizona, and Jamie DeLeon of Terrell, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her nine grandchildren: Anjelica, Andrew, Mary, Janessa, Dominic, Alex, Walker, Bradley, and Alycia. Mary was also a proud great-grandmother to Drake, Linkoln, Avyonna, Cason, Asher, Jason, Xavier, and Athena. She is further survived by her brother, Philip Basquez of Defiance, and her sister, Fran Roddy of Defiance. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janie Alvarado.

Mary graduated from Tinora High School in 1971 and dedicated 23 years of her life to CVS pharmacy. She was a dedicated employee and a source of inspiration to her colleagues. Mary's unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys since 1960 marked her as their number one fan, embodying true loyalty and passion for her favorite team.

Mary will be remembered for her infectious laughter and radiant smile that could brighten the darkest of days. Her joy was contagious, and she carried it with her wherever she went. Mary held a deep affection for her family and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Her love knew no bounds, and her family was her greatest treasure along with her strong relationship with God.

In addition to her love for family and football, Mary was an avid admirer of Bon Jovi and Cher, whose music brought her joy and comfort throughout the years.

Visitation to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio, on Jefferson St from 2 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the same location at 11 am. Mary will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

Mary's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her spirit will continue to shine through the achievements of her children, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the enduring love of her family. May she rest in eternal peace.
