Marvin L. Widmer, age 92, joined his heavenly home on December 25, 2017. He was born December 6, 1925 in Defiance to the late Virgil (Bud) and Helen (Rhamy) Widmer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. In his senior year of Defiance High School he was employed by Christ Diehl Brewing Company for part time office work. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Navy and was assigned to an L.S.T., spending 2 years traveling throughout the Pacific Ocean. After leaving the Navy, he married Anna Kent in 1950. He worked for the B&O Railroad as a telegraph operator until 1965. He entered the Postal service and worked as a clerk until retirement in 1989. He then enjoyed working part time as a courier for Rurbanc, a data processing company.
Preceding him in death was his sister, Elinor (Widmer) Rock and his dear wife, Anna, who passed away in 1985. He was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church and VFW Lodge 3360. He was also a member of the Defiance Moose Lodge and The Bud Widmer Rube Band.
Surviving are 3 children; Shari Dierks (Dave), Jeffrey (Beth), Marsha Schoonmaker (Dave). He had 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 30, in Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.lawsonroessner.com
