Obituary

Marvin L. Hageman, age 77 of Defiance, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025 at The Laurels of Defiance. He was born in Defiance, Ohio on August 8, 1948 to the late Red and Marie Hageman. Marv was a 1966 graduate of Ayersville High School. He proudly served in the U.S.Army from 1969 to 1971 including a year in Germany. On May 2, 1970 he married Deborah (Hedrick) Hageman and they have celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Marv was a life member of both Defiance Eagles #372 and AmVets #1991. He worked at Dresser Industries, A. Van Brackel & Sons, and Defiance County Environmental Services until his retirement in 2012. After retirement he drove cars for different car dealers and also worked at NAPA. Marv and Deb traveled to the Smoky Mountains many times, calling this their "Happy Place". Marv was a lead guitarist in many local bands, most notably "American Sound" and "Country Side Band". Marv had a great sense of humor and had a joke for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends. Marv is survived by his loving wife Deb and two sons, Brent (Dina) Hageman of Las Vegas, NV and Brian (Jenni) Hageman of Wauseon, OH. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jacob and Ella Hageman of Wauseon, step-grandchildren Anthony (Christine) Militano and Gia Roscette, two great-step-grandchildren, Miles and Julian Militano of Las Vegas, his brother Mark Hageman of Ayersville, and sister, Mary Potter of Florida. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewie Hageman. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Marv will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery with graveside Military Honors.
