Marvin C. Brandt, 87, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH.
He was born on April 10, 1927 to Edward and Wilhemina (Plassman) Brandt in Defiance County, OH. On November 2, 1952 he married Emma (Hoops) Brandt.
Marvin was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and a Lutheran Social Services volunteer. Marvin also volunteered with Mission Builders building churches. He was a truck driver, and also worked for Toledo Edison, Firestone, Campbell's Soup, and Patten/Century 21 Realtors. Marvin was a member of Ridgeville Corners American Legion Post #454, VFW Post #3360 and a former Cub Scout Pack Leader. He was a keynote speaker at his G.E.D. Graduation Service. Marvin enjoyed dancing, bowling, golfing, and vacation trips.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Emma, sons, Gregory (Linda) Brandt of Defiance, Alex (Cheryl) Brandt of Norton Shores, MI, Eric (Dawn) Brandt of Defiance, Bradley (Lori) Brandt of Evansport, Rodney (Lori) Brandt of Maumee, daughter, Cynthia (Kenn) Sawmiller of Defiance, 15 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, brother, Stephen (Jeanne) Brandt of Centerville, OH, sisters, Virginia Brandt of Mansfield, OH, Alvera Brandt of Sylvania, OH, and Marlene Brandt of Tecumseh, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeffrey Brandt, brothers, Wilferd Brandt, Robert Brandt, Raymond Brandt, Edward Brandt, sisters, Joyce Connor, and Marian Steingass.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 pm Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home Defiance and from 10 to 11 am Thursday, October 2, 2014 prior to the services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 2, 2014, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Robbie Ketcham officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360.
The family requests memorials be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
