Marvel L Engel, 88, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. She was born on October 26, 1924 to James and Lena (Buckland) Hoffman in Continental, OH. She married Marion R. Engel in 1946 and he passed away in 1997.

Marvel was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and served on the Tiffin Twp Election Board. She and her husband was in the Cotillion Dance Club. She also enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center, going to craft shows, doing crossword puzzles and reading.

Marvel is survived by her sons, Lee (Linda) Engel of Hamilton, IN, Richard (Helene) Engel of Defiance, daughter, Diane (Joseph) Stancati of Toledo, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Lucille Studer and a brother, Kenneth Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Robert Jencks officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8p.m. Friday at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home , Defiance, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The family suggest memorials be made to CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center or St. John United Church of Christ.
