(Engel) Kopp
April 7, 1936 – December 3, 2023
Marlene Lucille Kopp, age 87, passed away peacefully at Kingsbury Place in Defiance, Ohio on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was born on April 7, 1936 to Ervin and Wilma (Whitney) Engle. Marlene was a graduate of Ayersville High School, class of 1954. On October 20, 1957 she married Jim Kopp who preceded her in death in January 2015.
Marlene worked in the medical field after graduating college. Later, she started at Dinner Bell Foods/John Morrell as a secretary and retired in April of 1994 as a corporate secretary, where she made several life-long friends. Marlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending weekends at their lake home on Marble Lake in Quincy, Michigan, where she was known for her Sunday dinners. Marlene and Jim loved their winter home in Saddlebag Lake Estates in Lake Wales, Florida where she was the head of the Garden Club and had many dear friends. She moved back to Defiance, Ohio in May of 2018 where she resided at Kingsbury Place. Marlene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Marlene is survived by her two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Kaszowski of Fort Wayne, IN and Linda (Gilbert) Palm of Toledo, OH, five grandchildren; Kristin (Allen) Spencer, Amber (Craig) Lenwell, Matt (Audra) Kaszowski, Kevin (Randi) Palm and Mark (Lisa) Palm, eleven great-grandchildren, her brother Roger (Carole) Engel and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jim Kopp. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Dana Bjorlin officiating.
