Obituary

Marilyn J. Olivo, age 74 of Defiance, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at ProMedica Defiance Hospital. She was born in Lima, Ohio on July 9, 1951 to the late Robert and Susanna (Schroeder) Smith. Marilyn worked for over 40 years at Johns Manville until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Moose Lodge #2094, and a social member of VFW #3360. Marilyn was an avid reader and she enjoyed her daily walks. She also enjoyed going shopping and visiting the wineries with her sisters. Marilyn will be sadly missed by her family and many good friends.

She leaves behind her son, Correy (Tammy) Olivo, three grandchildren, Noah, Correy and Zoey, all of Defiance, her siblings, Carolyn (Larry) Dorn of Ottawa, Mary (Larry Maynard) Smith of Leipsic, Robert J. (Anne) Smith of Ottawa, Theresa Kingsley of Glandorf, Ann (Mark) Dunnett of Sylvania and Judy (Todd) Hamp of Lima, and special friend Mike Stork. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her fiancé, Ray Bowen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 16th at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, or Wounded Warriors.
