Marilyn Jeanne Kuhn was born in Bryan, Ohio on March 13, 1930 to Mabel and Russell Dierks.  She was born in veil making her special at the moment of birth.  Part of her childhood was spent in the Toledo Children Hospital due to a congenital hip.  Three children were operated on but Marilyn was the only one to walk.  Even though one leg was 6 inches shorter than the other, she never let it stop her.  She graduated from Bryan High School in 1948.  On July 30, 1948, she wedded Robert Gene Kuhn.

Marilyn worked as a waitress at LaMars in Bryan for several years until the family moved to Ayersville..  She managed the Star Apparel in Defiance when her girls got older.  Later in life she worked at the Deluxe Cleaners.

Marilyn volunteered her time to made groups.  She served on the board of election, cooked for the Rotary, lead Girl scouts and Brownies, helped with Bible school, worked in the Altar Society at church, aided in the Red Cross Blood Drives and served in Eastern Stars. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Defiance for many years.

Surviving Marilyn are two daughters, Rick (Sherri) Bishop of Stryker and Donald (Karen) McAfee in Archbold.  Four grandchildren: Tondra Vermillion, Peter McAfee, Samantha (Bud) Whaley, Erica (Anthony) Godsey.  Four great grandchildren: Courtney Ryan, Ethan Whaley. Madison Whaley, and Carson Godsey. One great great grandson: Elias Ryan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers: Ted and Charles Dierks, one grandson, Shawn Vermillion.

Calling hours will be Monday, September 16, 2013 from 4 to 7pm in the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance and one hour prior to the funeral at church on Tuesday starting at 10:30am.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 11:30am in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Defiance with Rev. David Brobston officiating.

Burial will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery, Fayette, Ohio.
