Marie E. Hostettler, 102, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at her home in Defiance. She was born on October 23, 1915 to Samuel and Amelia (Batt) Wisda in Defiance County. On July 1, 1935 she married Daniel Hostettler, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 31, 1975. Marie was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church, and the Christian Mother's Society. She was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan. Her strong, loving faith has given joy and strength to her large family. Her example of courage and love will be tenderly remembered. Marie will be sadly missed by her sons, Daniel David (Patricia) Hostettler, Jr., William (Brenda) Hostettler, Mike Hostettler, and Mark (Sherri Cereghin) Hostettler, all of Defiance, daughters, Joann Deitrick of Defiance, Barbara Teats of Montpelier, and Pamela Marshall of Tiffin, 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great-granchildren, and sister, Margaret Keck of Paulding. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Hostettler, Sr., son, John Hostettler, sons-in-law, Jack Teats, Robert Deitrick, and  Robert Marshall, brothers, Martin, Samuel, Virgil, Anthoney, Albert, Francis, Sylvester, Felix, and Richard Wisda, and sisters, Gertrude Schindler, Amelia Hardy, and Ann Hicks. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Eric Mueller officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
