Maria R. Garcia, 94, of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on September 4, 2015 at the CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on April 24, 1921 to Ramon and Refugia (Calderon) Ruiz in Chihuahua, Mexico. On December 4, 1941 she married Reynaldo Garcia who preceded her in death. Maria was a wonderful cook, loved to dance, knit, craft, plant flowers, and spending time with her family. Maria is survived by her daughter, Marianna (Anselmo) Gomez of Defiance, OH, daughter, Janie (Steven) Petch of Defiance, OH, daughter, Gloria Benavidez, son, Reynaldo Garcia of Defiance, OH, son, Ramon (Jennefer) Garcia of Napoleon, OH, sister, Manuela Flores of Rupert, ID, 20 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reynaldo Garcia, Sr., son, Victor Garcia, daughter, Delores Patino, daughter, SanJuanita Garcia, 2 children in infancy, great-granddaughters, Ashtyn McCrae Baker, Danielle & Destiny Barta - Benavidez , great-grandson, Christopher Villalovos, son-in-laws, Tomas Benavidez, Jr and Adrian Patino, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. In honor and remembrance of Maria a Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 11:00 am, at the Restoration Tabernacle Church, with Rev. Janet Strickland, officiating. A private family burial at Riverside Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
