Obituary

Margie Lou Slocum, 76, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at her residence.

She was born on July 8, 1938 to John and Laverne (Cooper) Farris in Defiance.  Margie graduated from Defiance High School in 1956.  On June 23, 1956 she married David F. Slocum.

Margie was a life-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served in the bell & vocal choirs, and often sang as a soloist. She also participated in the Service Guild and the Beta Circle. David & Margie met in choir and therefore music was a huge part of their lives. She also volunteered at the Defiance Library.  Margie previously worked as secretary at the Defiance Crescent News and The Health Department.

Margie is survived by her husband, David, children, Laurie Beth (Allen) Lucas of Farmer,  Jon Mark (Gina) Slocum of Norton Shores, MI, David F (Karen) Slocum, Jr. of Ft. Collins, CO, Melissa Jane (Todd) Melia of Defiance, Jennifer Anne (Mike) Eddy of Bradenton, FL, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters, Lois M. (Jim) Little of Terre Haute, IN. and  Linda M Morin of Fresno, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with  Pastor David Brobston officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The family suggest memorials be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center..
