Obituary

Margaret A. "Maggie" Thomas, age 79 of Defiance, passed away on Friday February 7, 2025 at her residence in Defiance, Ohio. She was born in Hancock County on June 13, 1945 to Victor and Zelma (Goedde) Stoepfel. Maggie was a 1963 graduate of McComb High School. On September 16, 1967 she married Russell "Tom" Thomas, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2023. She was a life member of Defiance VFW Auxiliary #3360. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and spoiling her grandchildren. Spending time with her family was always her priority, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Maggie is survived by her loving daughters; Mary (George) Carr, Tracy (Dan) Frederick, Lori (Tim) Nafziger, and Toni (Mike) Hammersmith, all of Defiance, her grandchildren; Ryan (Tori) Carr, Tyler (Hunter) Carr, Kyle Carr, TJ Nafziger, Ben Nafziger, Tristen Frederick, and Eli Frederick, and great-granddaughter Penelope Carr. She also leaves behind brothers, Jim (Jan) Stoepfel, Mike (Karen) Stoepfel and Tony (Cheryl) Stoepfel, and her sisters, Mary (Jack) Rutherford, Judy (Don) Cusac and Rosie (Tom) Phillips.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tom, sister, Betty Eisman, and brothers, Bob, David, John, Gene, and Dick  Stoepfel. A private service will be held. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
