Margaret Jean Monk, 93, of Defiance, passed away on  Wednesday, September 20, 2012 at Promedical Defiance Regional Hospital, Defiance, OH.

She was born on November 6, 1918 to Frank and Haidee (Haaser) Shanahan in Fremont, OH.  She married LaVern C. Monk in 1941 and he passed away in 1964. Surviving her are her son, William S Monk of Sherwood, OH, daughters, Susan (David) Snyder of Defiance, OH, Tamara (Thomas) Hilty of Bowling Green, OH, Nancy Monk of Defiance, OH, 4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Robert Shanahan,  Joseph Shanahan, sisters, Mary Erman, and Kathaline Hoffman.

Margaret was a 1936 graduate of Fremont High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Theater Club and the Swim Club.  She was President of the Non-Commissioned Officer's Club, Ontario, CA. She was a homemaker.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 4th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Father Todd Dominique officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens.
