Obituary

Margaret Jean Cattell died at the CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice center on November 11th, 2013, and went to her home in heaven at 9:06 pm. She was 86 years old. Born at home in Lima, Ohio on August 21, 1927, she was the youngest of 6 children and the last surviving child of William McKinley Garver and Hazel Isabel (Workman) Garver. On August 10, 1946 she married the love of her life, Ray E. Cattell, and he survives in Ayersville. Also surviving is a son, John (Kay) Cattell of Ayersville, and two daughters; Cindy (Lee) Shong of Defiance, and Marianne (Jan) Courtaway of Defiance.

Maggie was blessed with 6 grandchildren; Lynn (John) Burkey of Killbuck, OH, Ed (Jenny) Siler of Miller City, OH, Amy (Jamie) Stamper of Morehead, KY, Ryan Courtaway of Ayersville, and Lisa (Matt) Lorenz of Defiance, OH, three Step Grandchildren; Matt (Mindy) Shong of Dayton, OH, Jessica Shong of Defiance, and Kyle Shong of Washington DC, 11 Great Grandchildren; Dakota & Dana Medley, Maggie and Brady Siler, Abby, Asa, and Bryce Stamper, Austin Shortridge, and Ethan & Katlyn Courtaway.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Donald "Bud" Garver, William "Billy" Garver, and Jack Garver, two sisters; Juanita Boate, and Vivetta McClure, a grandson, Jason Courtaway, and a great grandson, Noah Siler.

Margaret Jean worked at Barnes Restaurant for 33 years and in the Ayersville School Cafeteria for 16 ½ years. She was well known for her pies, homemade bread, decorated cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and of course the trick-or-treat waffles.

She and Ray worked all year to take their kids on great summer vacations and camping trips. They bought a property at Hamilton Lake, IN, and for 20 years everyone was welcome to swim, fish, take a pontoon boat ride, sit by the campfire, and enjoy great food with great people.

She was a member of First Church of Christ aka Defiance Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and cooked for banquets, funeral dinners, and for the youth groups. She was very devoted to her family in Lima. She and Ray made hundreds trips back home and never missed a family function.

Please come and join our family in celebrating Maggie's life on Friday November, 15th, 2013 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, OH, or at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Funeral services for Maggie will be held at the Defiance Christian Church on November 16th, 2013 at 12:00 Noon, with Pastor Bryan Maxey officiating. Burial will follow in Ayersville Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial donations in Maggie's name go to the CHP Defiance Inpatient Center or the Donor's Choice.
