Obituary

Magdalene A. (Lennie) Westrick passed away Wednesday June 4, 2014 at Glenn Park in Defiance.  She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 20, 1921 to Albert and Johanna (Klicka) Krejcik.  On September 18, 1946 she was married to Francis C. Westrick of Defiance At St. Mary's Catholic Church by Father Gerald Connelly.

She had previously worked at the Cleveland Public Library and the North Carolina State Library Commission in Raleigh, North Carolina.  She attended The Ohio State University and took courses from Bowling Green State University.

After her marriage she lived with her husband on farms in Adams Township and Washington Township, the latter for 52 years.  A mother of six children she still found time to volunteer in many capacities.   She was a weather Observer for WTOL TV Channel 11 and before that she called weather statistics into the USDA at Silver Springs, Maryland. She volunteered at Auglaize Village as an interpreter at Dr. Cameron's Office in the historic Village.  As a member of Marysdale Immaculate Conception Catholic Church she taught high school CCD classes, was a reader and a Eucharistic Minister.

She was a member of The Ohio State Historical Society and the Defiance County Historical Society, a life member of The Ohio State State University Alumni Association, a former member of the Marysdale Altar and Rosary Society, currently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Friends of the Defiance Public Library.  She belonged to the Defiance Hospital Auxiliary and worked weekly at the lobby information desk.


She leaves six children, JoAnne Barton, Edward Westrick, Michael Westrick, Karla (Mike) Love, Mark Westrick and Jean (Sam) Gully, 4 grand daughters and 1 great grandson.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, Pvt. Joseph Satullo, killed in Germany during WWII, her second husband, Francis, her parents, and three brothers and a sister all of Cleveland, Ohio.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Randy Giesige officiating.  Burial will follow in St.Isidaore's (previously Marysdale) Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service held at 7 p.m.

The family request memorials be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
