Obituary

Madonna A. Gilgenbach Madonna A. Gilgenbach, 90, of Defiance, passed away Sunday, September 10th, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on September 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Phillip W. and Rose A. (Carroll) Spangler. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School, graduated from Defiance High School and attended Tiffin University. On May 3, 1947 she married Clarence S. Gilgenbach in St. Mary's Catholic Church. He died December 14, 1959. Madonna then raised her five children as a single mother. She had worked in the dietary department at Defiance Hospital. She was a life member of New Bavaria VFW Post # 8847 auxiliary, member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and a member of the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society. She will be missed by daughters: Ruth Ann Harris of Lakewood, California, Janet (Richard) Dandy of Defiance, Laura (Ken Cymbola) Ziegler of Defiance. Son: Dennis (Debra) Gilgenbach of Defiance. Sister: Alberta Vogel of Defiance, sister in law Mable Spangler. Brother in law Lloyd Steingass and Sister in law Betty Gilgenbach. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Theresa (Craig Musch) Dandy of Toledo and Nathan Ziegler of Defiance and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her husband Clarence, son Frederick, a son Kenneth who died in infancy, daughter in law Linda Gilgenbach, son in law James Harris, brothers: Walter Spangler, John Spangler, brothers: James and Wilferd Spangler who both died in infancy, sister in law Jan Spangler and brother in law Wilbur Vogel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13th, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Visitation is Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 10:30-11:15 a.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. The rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a VFW auxiliary service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Bavaria Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Suggested memorials are to St. Mary's Catholic Church or CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. Condolences may be shared at www.lawsonroessner.com
