Madaline Jean Wagner, age 78, of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 30, 2026 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born in Defiance, Ohio on November 21, 1947 to the late Richard and Hallie (Amling) Shaw. On January 25, 1969 she married Larry Wagner who preceded her in death on January 12, 2011.

Madaline was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Holgate, Ohio, and enjoyed her time spent volunteering and helping others at church. She loved being outdoors and doing yard work, mowing, and lounging in her pond. Madaline took great pride in her flower gardens, especially her beautiful roses. She loved dogs, especially "Foxy", and will be terribly missed by her beloved canine friends.

Madaline is survived by her loving children, Paula (Eric Bowman) Walters of Hamler, and Richard (Brittany Moore) Wagner of Defiance. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Timothy Walters, Macie Wagner, and Riley Wagner, step-granddaughters, Maggie Bowman, Ashlyn Gilbert and Olivia Bartley, and her siblings, Ross Shaw of Ft. Collins, CO, John (Vickie) Shaw of Atlanta, GA, and Charles (Mary) Shaw of St. Charles, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Hallie Shaw, and husband Larry Wagner.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home, with Maryann Reimund officiating. Madaline will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
